A Year of Celebrations!

October 2009 – October 2010

• Zion building in Brothertoft Road is 75 years old.

• We launched this special year by celebrating the official opening of the original church building back in October 1934.

• On Saturday 17th October 2009, we had a social with a faith tea. This informal get together was for past and present members and friends of Zion.

• On Sunday 18th October there was a Celebration Service led by our new minister, Irena Byron, after which a hot meal followed.

• A Time Line has been constructed in the lounge (room 1).We have illustrated the life of Zion and the world at large and intend to build up the line and possibly change it during the year.

• There is a special 75th anniversary edition of Zion News.

• We hope that as many of you as possible, throughout this coming year, will join in celebrating God’s work through the people of Zion over these long and eventful years.

• We are building up a wide ranging programme of events for our anniversary year. The programme is based on the themes of .... Be Joyful, Be Prepared, Be Bold and Be Like Jesus. It covers celebration, growing in Christ, reaching out to our community and preparing ourselves and the church for the next 25 years and the centenary celebration. It will include:

        “Walk of Witness” from the site of the original Zion Chapel on West Street. Complete with banners and a cardboard version of the Tin-Tab we will meet at 10am and walk to Zion in time for the morning service.  This was postponed because of the weather.  See below for new date.

Other events are still at the planning stage, Open Gardens, River Trip, Book Reading, Theatre Trip, Sandcastle Competition, Concerts, days out etc, etc.

This is an exciting and challenging time for Zion Church and its people. We do hope that as many of you as possible will be coming and share in our fellowship, worship and events throughout the coming year.
